Question:
Are people allowed to burn joss-papers and candles in public places?

Answer:
The burning of joss paper is a religious practice and not regulated by any law. Nevertheless, residents are advised to burn joss paper in either a proper receptacle for burning, containers provided by the Town Councils or purpose-built pits provided in some HDB estates.

As such activities are carried out for religious reasons; we have to take into consideration the multi-religious nature of our society.

For Town Council areas, NEA and Town Councils has been educating residents on responsible burning of religious offerings and will continue to do so.
