How is the posting of students to secondary schools done?
Answer:
The posting process is based on PSLE score, school choices and vacancies at the selected schools.

Students with better PSLE scores will be considered first for vacancies in their chosen school. If there are no more vacancies, the students will be considered for their next choice school(s).

In situations of students having the same PSLE score, Singapore Citizens have priority over Singapore Permanent Residents and International Students. Between students with the same citizenship, a tie is resolved by computerised balloting with an equal chance for each student.

For 2019 S1 Posting, the order in which a student lists their schools does not give them priority when deciding who will get a place in the school. For example, John and Mary, who are both Singapore Citizens, have the same PSLE score, are vying for the last place in School A. Although John placed School A as his first choice, he does not have priority for posting over Mary, who placed School A as her third choice.

My child’s Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) aggregate falls in the course option. Can I choose a mixture of courses for my child’s secondary schools choices?
Answer:
If your child is eligible to choose between two course options, decide on the course first – either between Express and Normal (Academic), or between Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical).

As the course they chose will apply to all school choices, you should choose the schools accordingly.

What should I do if I am not in Singapore (i.e. overseas) at the point of school allocation results release?
Answer:
If you are unable to register at your child's posted school in person, you may authorise a proxy to act on your behalf.

The proxy would need to bring the following documents for verification at the school:

  • Proxy form completed by you
  • Photocopy of you and your spouse's NRIC
  • Photocopy of your child's Birth Certificate
  • Original NRIC of your appointed proxy

You may also visit the school's website or contact the school for further information.

My child is not a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident and is born between 2 January 2013 and 1 January 2014. How can my child seek admission to Primary One (P1) in 2020?
Answer:
Non-Singapore Citizen (SC) / non-Permanent Resident (PR) children who wish to seek admission to P1 in 2020 are required to undergo a two-step process:

Step 1: Submit an online indication of interest form via the MOE P1 website from 4 to 10 June 2019; and

Step 2: Non-SC / non-PR children who have submitted the 'indication of interest' form and are notified in October by MOE that they can be offered a P1 place in the school, must register in-person at the designated schools during Phase 3 of the 2019 P1 Registration Exercise (in late October 2019).

Parents of non-SC / non-PR children should note that the 'indication of interest' is not considered as registration. Parents of non-SC / non-PR children should also note that
admission is not guaranteed as there are limited vacancies remaining for non-SC / non-PR children after places are allocated to SC/PR children.

As admission is not guaranteed, parents are advised to consider alternative educational options well ahead of time.
